Itraconazole 200 mg
Description:
Itraconazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal belonging to the triazole class. It works by inhibiting fungal cytochrome P450–dependent enzyme (14-α demethylase), thereby blocking ergosterol synthesis, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This leads to disruption of cell membrane integrity and ultimately fungal cell death. It is effective against dermatophytes, yeasts, and systemic fungal infections.

- Dermatophytosis (ringworm infections)
- Onychomycosis (fungal nail infections)
- Candidiasis (oral, vaginal)
- Aspergillosis
- Blastomycosis
- Histoplasmosis
- Other systemic fungal infections
Common Side Effects:
- Nausea, vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Elevated liver enzymes
- Rash
Precautions:
- Monitor liver function during prolonged use
- Avoid in patients with congestive heart failure
- Use cautiously in hepatic impairment
- Drug interactions are common (CYP3A4 inhibitor)
- Not recommended during pregnancy unless necessary
