Uses 

  1. Prevention of nausea and vomiting
  2. Chemotherapy-induced nausea
  3. Radiotherapy-induced nausea
  4. Post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV)
  5. Acute gastroenteritis
  6. Drug-induced vomiting
  7. Motion-related nausea (off-label)

Side Effects 

  1. Headache
  2. Constipation
  3. Dizziness
  4. Fatigue
  5. Diarrhea
  6. QT prolongation (rare)
  7. Flushing

Precautions 

  1. Use cautiously in cardiac patients
  2. Avoid in congenital long QT syndrome
  3. Monitor electrolyte imbalance
  4. Use cautiously in liver impairment
  5. Avoid overdose
  6. Use in pregnancy only if prescribed
  7. Caution with other QT-prolonging drugs

Mechanism of Action (MOA) 

  1. Selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist
  2. Blocks serotonin receptors in gut
  3. Inhibits vomiting reflex
  4. Acts on central nervous system
  5. Prevents activation of vagal nerve
  6. Controls nausea signals
  7. Effective in chemotherapy-induced emesis
