Composition

Each film-coated tablet contains:

• Linezolid IP – 600 mg

Description

Linezolid is an oxazolidinone class antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, especially those caused by Gram-positive bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, preventing the growth and multiplication of bacteria.

Uses

• Pneumonia (hospital-acquired & community-acquired)
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Diabetic foot infections
• Infections caused by MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
• Infections caused by VRE (Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus)
• Complicated bacterial infections resistant to other antibiotics

Side Effects

Common:

• Nausea, vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Metallic taste

Serious (rare but important):

• Bone marrow suppression (low platelets, anemia)
• Peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage)
• Optic neuropathy (vision issues)
• Lactic acidosis
• Serotonin syndrome (when combined with certain antidepressants)

Precautions

• Avoid prolonged use (>14 days) without medical supervision
• Regular blood count monitoring is recommended
• Use cautiously in patients with:
  • Hypertension
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Kidney or liver issues
• Avoid taking with SSRIs / antidepressants (risk of serotonin syndrome)
• Limit intake of tyramine-rich foods (cheese, wine)
